Salary Raise for Monti Cello Public School Teachers

The board of education announced salary adjustments for Monticello public school staff. Elementary base pay increased by 100, two year teachers added a new category, and bachelor and master degree holders gain 200 with higher annual increments. Eight teachers resigns and three new hires, including Howard Webb as new vocational agriculture instructor. Contracts due April 15.

Approval Granted 3-Year Road Plan For Jones County

Jones County board approves the three year road improvement program totaling 62.74 miles to be graded and surfaced at 561180. A map error in Jackson township was corrected. The plan awaits State Highway Commission approval.

The United Auto Workers filed with the National Labor Relations Board to hold a vote among Energy Farm Equipment Co. employees on whether to appoint the union as their sole representative for collective bargaining. FFA Banquet Names Sweetheart Officers and Members

Monti cello Future Farmers of America chapter held a Friday banquet in the Community building. Mary Ann Buol was announced as chapter sweetheart by Tom Streets. Forrest Johnson received honorary member of the year honors. Six members received awards for outstanding achievement in swine beef sheep dairy corn and weed control. New officers include Streets president Meier vice president Hanssen secretary Hein treasurer Gerdes reporter and Wright sentinel. Outgoing officers listed and John Bryant serves as advisor. A program featured Mary Ellen Reid, Bob Nance, a film on the national FFA anniversary, and toasts and welcomes.

Cascade Voters Approve Gas Plant Board

Cascade residents vote 65 to 29 to authorize a three member board appointed by Mayor Leo Dolphin to oversee a municipal gas system. A $160000 bond was approved earlier, with mains installation possible in spring 1958 pending Federal Power Commission action.

Bonding Power Too Low to Build Gym in Monticello

The Monticello public school board heard a special study committee report that bonding power is insufficient to finance a new gymnasium auditorium with music room and kitchen facilities. Architect estimates place the cost around 272000 dollars, with bond limits near 123000 dollars at typical interest rates. The committee urged continued study and requested lawmakers support Senate files 1 and 2.
