Parke County hosts its second annual free fair starting Tuesday, featuring daily exhibits and events. Entries for Farm Products Domestic Arts and Poultry close at noon Tuesday September 12, with cattle and swine judging set for Wednesday and a livestock parade led by a band planned.
Thursday features horse show and cattle judging with pacers and trotters trials in the speed ring. Entries accepted until noon September 14. Evening livestock parade and horse show. Friday highlights boys and girls club work including a 30 pig club judging contest with $27 in cash prizes and a calf club sale. Sale times 10 30 pigs and 12 30 calves. Out of town buyers expected.
The Cook family annual reunion gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Herman Smiths country home on Sunday September 3 with many relatives bringing baskets for a bountiful dinner. Miss Maggie Goldstine read aloud and several members gave talks before approving minutes and planning the 1923 reunion at Mrs. Mary Goldstines Indianapolis home. A horseshoe pitching contest provided merriment as attendees departed.
The body of Mrs. Ed Fellows arrived Sunday for burial after delays. The service at M E Church was led by Rev. J C Whitson with interment at Oakland Cemetery. Born Alicia Davis in Montezuma she lived in Washington with her family before death at age 50. Survived by husband a son two daughters three brothers and one sister all living in various states or countries.
Fred E. Murphy of Danville Illinois visited his mother Mrs. R C Murphy spending Saturday night and Sunday at home before returning to Danville Sunday evening.
The American Legion will run Saturday night activities with a large crowd expected. The Woman's Department and girl’s club displays will be in the courthouse corridors with prom and educational exhibits upstairs by County Superintendent Jolles. Farm Products and Poultry tents on the south side will be bigger than last year. Free admission, daily attendance encouraged, with music during the day and night.
The third annual reunion of former Illinois people now living in Indiana attracted about 160 attendees at Whiteheads Grove near Milligan. County tallies showed Parke leading with 64 residents, Montgomery 239, and others from Champaign Bureau Pratt Vermillion and Fountain counties. A basket dinner and community singing followed by talks and an election of officers capped the pleasant day. The next gathering is set for Rockville Beechwood Park on Sept 2 1923.
The township schools opened on Monday with a total enrollment of 4380. Coloma reports larger than usual numbers requiring an extra teacher. Pauline Rawlings joins to supervise intermediate grades. West Union enrollment matches recent years, with a few more expected. Montezuma lists 296 students, 134 in High School and the rest in six lower grades. The outlook is hopeful for a strong school year.
Trains on the C I W line have resumed service after a coal shortage. The eastbound train arrives at 8 03 A M and the westbound at 8 59 A M.

Tracks appeared at the rear, indicating possible entry through the basement. No solid clues yet, and suspects remain at large.
A burglary at the Capitol theatre office in Clinton stole about 1400 dollars on Monday night. The money had been placed in a locked safe after Labor Pay. the thief, using explosives, forced the safe open.
The Rosenblatt Brothers store was entered last Wednesday night and about $700 worth of goods were stolen. The break in was discovered the next morning by the janitor with no clues found. A burglary claim is under investigation.
The Parke county M W of A annual picnic drew a decent crowd with music, an address, and short talks. A basket noon meal and a social afternoon led to a ball game won 5-4 by Rosedale over Montezuma, aided by a late eighth inning error.
A $50 reward is offered by Grover C Rohr for information that leads to the conviction of the person who broke into the J A Heber and Son grocery store on a Saturday night, September 3rd. All information will be kept confidential by the night watch.

At Rockville the Parke County committee outlined nine high schools will be split into three groups of three for four game series to crown division winners then a Rockville tournament to decide the county champions. Montezuma hosts Mecca in the opener Friday at 4 15 PM with public support urged for revenge and a strong season ahead.
