Huh Garlinghouse of Hillsdale sustained serious burns that proved fatal after coal oil ignited while he poured it on a stove fire early Saturday. The home burned with no insurance, his wife was burned while rescuing their three children, who were saved from the flames by the mother.

John W. Thomas a prominent Vermillion county resident, died instantly when his car was struck by C. and E. I. train No. 92 at the south end of the river bridge in Cayuga. The wreckage fell into the Vermillion River. the body was recovered after the train backed up. He was 55, survived by the widow and three children. Funeral held at home with burial in Wolf Creek Cemetery near Wallace Indiana.
