Sergeant Paul Homer Long son of Straud J Long born 1897 Marshall Indiana died 1918 near Mandres France killed in action burial with military honors in Mandres French Military Cemetery. He enlisted at fifteen trained at Jefferson Barracks Galveston Dallas then Vera Cruz before overseas service with Co HK 28th Infantry. His funeral at Oakland Cemetery Montezuma drew about two thousand mourners with a military escort and Legion chaplain delivering the service.

Deputy sheriff Roy Wright and aides conducted a dawn raid just north of Centenary. They captured seven men, seized five large copper stills, as well as heaters and related equipment. Two stolen cars were recovered, one returned to Indianapolis owner. No arrests offered resistance.

Youth Drowns While Bathing at Mill Dam
Paul Neese aged 19 and a Brazil high school graduate drowned in Big Raccoon River near Mansfield on Sunday about 10 o clock. He was part of a picnic party and became exhausted while swimming in a deep hole near a mill dam. The body was recovered shortly after and medical aid from Rockville and Brazil was called but provided no aid. The deceased was well liked among his friends.

Fatal shock kills Clinton foreman Palmer at work
John L. Palmer of Clinton, foreman for Wabash Valley Electric Co and chief of the city fire department, was instantly killed Saturday afternoon when a live wire contacted a five fuse block, sending 2,300 volts through his body and sending him crashing about sixteen feet onto the floor. He was a valued employee, church member, and lodge participant, survived by his widow, a daughter, a son, a brother, three sisters, and his parents.
