Hillsdale residents report several social visits and family health updates. Ed Brock underwent an appendectomy in Terre Haute and is recovering well. Mrs. Scott Pearman remains seriously ill. Families including the Websters and Harpers hosted or visited relatives in Clinton and Terre Haute.
A reunion of Illinois natives now living in Indiana votes to hold yearly gatherings at A. J. Whitehead grove near Milligan. The 192% event drew a large crowd despite poor weather with plans for continued Hoosierized ties. President A J Whitehead of Waveland, Treasurer C M Reier of Milligan, and Secretary Maye B Huffman of Rockville organize future reunions.
The Enterprise introduces a new feature titled Uncle Sol Remarks replacing the former People Of Our Town. It is strictly original and will run based on reader response, with no reflection on individuals or parties intended.
Ed Oldshue's car collided with a gravel truck three miles from Montezuma on the way to the After Noon Circle party. One wheel tore off and the car overturned. Oldshue suffered a rib injury, while Vivian Sprahan and Madge and Julia Sprahan were bruised. A passing car transported them to Montezuma. The crash was blamed on a narrow road section where the truck had the advantage.
The Montezuma base ball nine proved far superior to the Judson base ball club in a game on the local field Sunday by the decisive score of 14 to 2. The locals dominated with strong hitting and solid pitching.
The frame boys will face fast teams in their class with Friday game against Portland Mills at Rockville and Sunday at home versus Clinton C C C. Both games are predicted to be thrillers as supporters are urged to attend.
The Western Indiana Christian Restoration Congress will be held at Dana on August 22 and 23 1922 at the Christian Church A program begins Tuesday evening at 7 15 and Wednesday at 9 00 AM and 1 15 PM Prominent workers in the Christian Church are on the program and all are invited to attend and support Primitive Christianity in Western Indiana.
A combined committee from town organizations is urged to meet at Montgomery Hall on Monday night August 21 at 7 30 P M to consider matters of importance. Harry Anderson P C American Legion.
Merritt Gritton spent last week with home folks. Master Carl Ratcliff is spending the week in Indianapolis. Naomi Myers is visiting in Paris Illinois with her aunt and family. Mrs Garry Reeder and son John and Mrs L I Acree went to Danville Illinois Wednesday for a few days visit. Eli Craft is very poorly and his nerves have given out with a weak heart.
A.R. Machin bought Mathas poultry truck and runs two regular Prezuma routes with specials for large lots. Aluminum sale at the Newell Store drew early, with attendees purchasing many pieces. The Hoosier State Morgan Chautauqua at Newport was a success, planning a return next year after expenses and a small surplus. Nearby towns discuss reviving the Ocean-to-Ocean Highway with engineer efforts. An Ocean Peak Association representative promoted the group’s work, saving hundreds of dollars for members. Ralph W. Miss Vera Knight returns home after a three week visit with relatives in Mattoun Illinois and Marshall. Numerous neighbors and kin visit John Myers and family including James Forrest and grandchild James Forrest. Shoppers from Rockville stop to see the Myers household and Miss Jennie Myers resumes work in Rockville.
J Johnston, long-time associate of the First National Bank and well known in the community, was chosen as a Director to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr. Charles H. Causey. The selection signals the regard in which he is held and his banking ability.
The annual Mathas Reunion will be held Tuesday August 29 1922 in the woods at the Peter Mathas home east of town. Everyone is invited to attend.
Classified items include a double barrel breech loading shotgun for sale at the Enterprise Office. An advertisement seeks a lady to set type with short hours and good wages. Also for sale used automobile parts for all makes from Ernie’s Garage Clinton Indiana. Local visit reports Mr. J. Oldshue and daughter Vivian of Waveland visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hancock last week.
Uncle Sol quips that bootleggers thrive without booze. Rev. B. Hong reports growing church memberships in Sizzersvil Klipper, yet laments declining religious devotion amid the era’s troubles.
Mr and Mrs Earl Baker and Mr and Mrs P O Fogerson of Villa Grove Ill spent a few days last week with relatives here. Mrs Rosco Woody and child ren of Crawfordsville visited Mr and Mrs C W Manwaring. Mrs C H Causey is in Indianapolis with sister Mrs Will Mason. Mr and Mrs Orph Millikan and Mr and Mrs Sam Smith spent a day in Metcalf Ill visiting John Marquand and wife. Kenneth English visited grandparents Mr and Mrs Roland English. Several attended the chautauqua at Rockville and reported a splendid entertainment.
