Longtime coach C. O. Reel departs Montezuma High after three years of building athletics. He will pursue state normal training in Terre Haute while remaining three credits short of a college degree.
The three township schools Coloma West Union and Montezuma meet at Montezuma High School April 6 for the fourth annual field and track event. Students from grades five through eight compete for two banners while high school students vie for prizes in 38 events. Montezuma won last year and aims to repeat as locals invite all to attend free starting 1 PM.
Cold weather kept the local ball fans from meeting Sunday though organizers expect to regroup soon and plan future turnout.
Wabash Township Ladies of the Christian and M E churches each cleared more than fifty dollars at Easter bazaars. The H S Orchestra will provide music for the class play The Dust of the Earth on April 13 and 14. Married couples include Herman Cox and Margaret Edmonds in Rockville and Andrew Simpson and Goldin Clayton in Danville Illinois.
Hillsdale High School presents the senior class play The Fascinating Fanny Brown on Saturday April 7 1923 at Idlewild hotel. Cast includes Percival Gale Paul Shew Gordon Jackson Dorothy Dudley Mary Guilliams Emmea Jackson Florence Howe Gladys Bonebrake and Frances Clearwaters. Synopses note an hypnotist escape and Fanny Brown’s arrival with a dog fight scene. Admission 15 25 cents. reserved seats 35 cents.
The Parke county high school Track and Field Meet will be held at Beechwood Park in Rockville on Wednesday April 18. Local teams Bloomingdale Tangier and Rockville are expected to challenge last year’s county champions with strong practice and rising marks across events. Coaches list names for events including Dulgar Clary Thomas and McMasters in multiple sprints, jumps, and throws.
The postal department urges rural route box owners to paint boxes and posts white and display the owner's name in neat black letters at least an inch high. Postmaster Robison will inspect in April and report noncompliers to the government. A willing contractor with stencils could handle many boxes.
Thelma Louise Gill born March 18 1909 in Aatezuma Indiana died March 31 1923 in Decatur Illinois at home aged 14 years 18 days. She was daughter of Bert G and Effie Arnold Gill moved to Decatur at age eight and attended Central High School and Decatur Musical College where she studied violin and played in the college orchestra. She was quiet obedient loving and never joined a church though the Methodist Church was her choice, survived by parents grandmother Mrs Mary Kaufman of Decatur and grandfather Alex Gill of Andra Kentucky with other relatives.

A merchant driving home from Terre Haute was robbed near the crossroads east of town. His car stalled when the motor seized from empty cylinder oil. The thief took a shipment of percale, gingham, muslin, sweaters, and other goods. the robbery was reported to Officer Grover Rohr.
An epidemic of measles swept through the school causing several pupils to be absent as a preventative measure and to curb spread.
The Junior class hosted a Friday evening reception at the high school with a living room and dining room setup in a grade room. A three course dinner followed by games delighted guests including Mr. and Mrs. Mahan and Miss Clara McCullough. Helen Forrest was ill and could not attend, and all guests left praising the Juniors as ideal entertainers.
Chas Moore died Wednesday morning after a serious illness. William Rhoades, of Dana, died last Wednesday and was buried Friday evening. Jodes, a Dana resident, described as a longtime resident. The Ladies Industrial Society at the Dunlap Hotel netted over $50 from a sale and plans another soon. C. S. Overman aided the Gazette for three weeks during Mrs. L. K. Feigher illness. The Marion brick plant east of town, idle for years, has been sold to the Dee Co. Complaints rise about chickens roaming and destroying flowers and gardens. residents urged to pen up their birds.

The Presbyterian church reports illness among members but a fair crowd with visitors. Rev N W Clark preached an Easter sermon with Mary Hill solo and William Blue piano solo. An Easter reading and a Mary Hill trio closed the morning service. Next service Sunday April 15 at eleven with no evening service due to the Baccalaureate.
