A devastating blaze swept Middleton eight miles west of Madison destroying twenty-three buildings including two hotels, the post office, and the opera house. Summer Institute for Teachers at Monroe in July
Superintendent Schwerd Koner announces a three week summer teachers institute at Monroe from July 16 to August 6. Rural Mail Delivery Tested Near Monroe. Routes Planned
Nearly a thousand farmers north and south of Monroe are to receive daily mail as rural delivery expands. Post office officials including P. Walker of Boscobel and Local Postmaster C. A. Booth inspect two proposed routes from Monroe through Clarno Cadiz to Sylvester. Routes would cover 20 to 30 miles, serve farms, and include carriers and a substitute. The system, already practical and not costly, aims to reduce small local post offices and bring mail and money orders directly to rural communities.
