J. H. Babcock of Albany Wisconsin was found dead in his bed at the State Odd Fellows Home in Green Bay Saturday morning. The death was due to heart failure. He was ninety one years old.

Monroe lodge I C O F conducted burial at Greenwood cemetery with Green county bar members as pallbearers. Attendees included Judge B F Dunwiddie and family from Janesville and other towns in Wisconsin.

Take Over Plant Ends City Control Of Water Works
The city completed the formal transfer of the water works today paying $21,058.25 to Wright and Bennett and owing $5,000 to them. Bonds are being sold to cover the balance, with banks and Etter and Thorp handling the issue. City takes charge tomorrow.

Swartz Attacks University Education Spend Targeting High Schools
Milwaukee December 29 Professor G W Swartz of Monroe spoke at a teachers convention arguing the University of Wisconsin underfunds the education department relative to other fields and fails to train high school teachers adequately. He cites data on enrollment 273 high schools 28 000 pupils 1 400 future teachers and compares per pupil costs and staff shortages to other departments. He calls for stronger leadership and enhanced professional preparation for high school teaching.

Morse Gets Two Years For Forgery
J Gordon Morse former Madison piano dealer pleaded guilty in municipal court to forging a $250 note. Judge Donovan sent him to Waupun for two years with one day of solitary confinement annually. Columbia County authorities claim against Green County for medical attendance and care for M E Silver, a supposed Albany resident, who suffered a severe head injury by accidentally falling at the Planters hotel in Portage on October 6. Volney Atwood hailed as the state’s oldest odd fellow died Sunday morning at his Janesville home aged 95. Born in Vermont in 1812 he moved to Janesville in 1837 and joined the Odd Fellows in 1847. For the past decade the lodge honored him with a birthday banquet.
