Mob Shoots Into Telegraph Office
A mob attacked the Postal Telegraph office at Ash Fork Arizona early Tuesday firing through windows and endangering four employees. No injuries reported. A special engine was to be run to Prescott to bring sheriff deputies. Vice President Nally in New York notified federal authorities in Washington. Governor Kilbey promised prompt aid and protection. President Small of the Commercial Telegraphers Union issued his first statement on the general strike and reported new members joining. An eight hour day pact with American Telephone & Telegraph was signed, with 10 to 15 percent raises for telegraphers. The government of the United States and Canada were urged to take over Western Union and Postal lines by Small. Leased-wire operators went out in several brokers' offices. Gompers and other labor leaders sought an honorable adjustment of the strike.
