Teens arrested in Marshfield store robbery attempt

In Marshfield two teenagers were arrested for an attempted robbery of 96-year-old Margarette Wolf at Wolf's Grocery on July 15. A 13-year-old boy flashed a knife and demanded cash while the 17-year-old provided encouragement for gas money. Wolf hesitated to report at first, but later did. The younger offender was referred to juvenile authorities.

SEC says Anchor BanCorp Wisconsin settles fraud suit

Anchor BanCorp Wisconsin and its former CFO Dale Ringgenberg will settle a federal fraud case over underreported loan losses without admitting misconduct. The SEC accuses them of “intentionally or recklessly” misreporting 2009 loan losses as auditors flagged earnings discrepancies for the quarter ended June 30 2009. The firm reported an 11.8 million loss, versus a 15.8 million projected loss, and a 7.4 million loan loss reserve was allegedly ignored.

Milk truck on fire prompts sheriff response in Shullsburg Township

An early evening farm supply milk truck on Wisconsin 11 in Shullsburg Township caught fire, prompting Shullsburg Fire Department to respond at 8:10 p.m. The driver, William O. Hocking, 55, Platteville, had the vehicle smoking while traveling westbound. The truck sustained moderate damage and was towed as deputies assisted at the scene.
