Monroe approves funds for Badger State Trailhead project
Monroe's Common Council authorized up to 10000 from the parks fund to cover a shortfall on the Badger State Trailhead project. Fisch Construction of Verona won the bid at 175621 after DN grants totaling 80000 and 60000 in cash plus 20000 in-kind donations. Additional fundraising planned to bridge the gap. project near Twining Park on 14th Avenue expects completion this year.

Mural honors Brodhead train depot and local history
A 32 by 12 foot mural in downtown Brodhead honors the passenger train that linked Brodhead and Monroe in the 20th century. The $10,000 project, funded by the chamber, BID and three families, depicts Truman Olin and Thelma Olin among others, as residents recall the depot era and a school reunion memory.

Spring Grove Man Killed in Head-On Wisconsin Crash
An 81-year-old Browntown man, Antone C. Grawehr, died after a head-on collision on Wisconsin 81 near Spring Grove Township south of Brodhead on Aug 10. The other driver Maquira Q C Stokes, 30, of Rockford, was flown to a Rockford hospital and later arrested for driving while intoxicated. Alcohol and operating left of center were factors. The crash injured Grawehr’s passenger and Stokes’ two passengers. This marked Green County’s fifth traffic fatality of 2013.
