The piece notes Barnes & Son on the west side of the square offering steam powered lathes, saws, spoke turning, mortising and grain grinding, aiding farmers and stock feeders. It also describes upcoming choir and cantata classes led by local leaders, and announces G A Mosher’s grocery stock expansion after purchasing J S Bloom, urging support.

Recruits Sail for Frederick Regiment from Madison
Captain Flood with thirteen men passed inspection by Major Smith, superintendent of the state recruiting service, joining a total of twelve more recruits in Madison.
