Medicare boosts patient hospital costs by 19 percent

The Social Security Administration announced a 19 percent hike in patient out of pocket costs for Medicare in 1977. The first 124 of the bill for up to 60 days will be covered, with daily charges rising to 31 dollars for days 61 to 90 and 15.20 dollars per day for 21st to 100th days in skilled nursing stays. Lifetime reserve days remain, but daily costs rise to 62 dollars. Overall Medicare hospital insurance is projected to rise from 13.6 to 16.1 billion dollars, with beneficiaries growing from about 24.7 million to 25.3 million next year.
