City of Monroe Leaves New Orleans for Monroe on Trial Trip
The 210 horsepower steel tow boat City of Monroe built for the Commercial Transportation Co. leaves New Orleans tonight and will arrive Saturday, then remain briefly for Twin City inspections. Malcolm Biedenharn manages the line. The vessel tows Dravo barges carrying carbon black, Louisiana products, sugar and general merchandise upstream. It is 86 feet long with a 20 foot beam and a six cylinder Fairbanks Morse engine. The sternwheel turns about 26 rpm. The engine deck holds four 6x10 foot state rooms, a dining room for eight, and a six by eighteen foot galley.
