Herbert Quick of Madison Iowa told the National Conservation Congress in Kansas City that the United States must strengthen ties between farmers and railroads. He warned rate policies favor big markets and urged railway cooperation with rural needs to spur agriculture and national development.

In Dumas Arkansas a mob forced entry into Desha county jail and hanged Charles Malpass Sr a white man at the water tank after a day of deadly confrontations that left Sheriff Preston and several others dead. Earlier a gun battle at the Malpass home killed two mulatto brothers Lee and Charles Malpass and wounded their father a white man. The mob dispersed after the lynching and the mother and younger son escaped.
A letter from Capt A L Gordon of the American Salvation Army urges Monroe residents to donate to a larger charity fund. He cites growing poverty with population 15 000 and winter approaching, urging citizens to help feed and support those in distress.
The piece urges citizens to support the American Salvation Army emergency home at 312 Grammont Street offering meals lodging baths and medical care. Captain Gordon seeks monthly donations of 1 or more with many business men already giving 1 to 5 dollars as winter increases demand.

A crowd of about three thousand gathered at a Murray Hill barbecue in Posey Grove, Vivian La. when a quarrel between the Davis and Craver families escalated into a knife and club fight. One youth, D G Davis, was killed and Pat Craver was mortally wounded. The brawl, prompted by a $1.50 dispute, involved S H Davis and his two sons, Henry Craver and his two sons, with Sheriff Flournoy and deputies attempting to intervene. The assailant identities remain uncertain as witnesses differ on who delivered the fatal blows.
An injunction order named Oirike has not been issued yet and will be held until the conference between interested parties concludes and a decision is reached.
Telegraph orders restrain railway trades on the Illinois Central and Harriman lines from walking out today. President O'Connell says no strike is ordered and will not happen before a conference with Harriman officials. Some locals reportedly began to walk last night.
Chicago dispatch reports two hundred non union men were sent south by the Illinois Central to fill roles of striking clerks and messengers at Memphis New Orleans and other points.
Memphis on September 27 reports that practically all Illinois Central Railroad clerks and allied lines south of the Ohio River are on strike. Over two hundred shopmen in Memphis have joined, and Union circles unofficially anticipate a nationwide strike order at any moment.
W E Bowen, chief of local and system protective committees, warns a general strike order could arrive any time. About 1 000 workers at McComb Harahan and 800 at New Orleans including clerks would be affected, with 280 clerks active and strikebreakers filling spots as officials expect a return to normal work soon.
