Edward B. Lowry a 32 year old painter for Louisiana Pulp and Paper was stabbed Sunday afternoon during a mill altercation. Fellow employee H Shumaker is in Bastrop police custody. Lowry was moved to St Francis sanitarium where doctors say recovery is likely. Witnesses say the argument began after Lowry punched Shumaker and the latter drew a knife.
Several traffic accidents reported across the city involve drivers M. J. Dostal T A Enochs W Kornmann and others. Damages include bent fenders wheels and a blown tire at intersections DeSiard Catalpa Twenty-fifth Streets and St John Wood streets with several unidentified drivers.
A. K. Lowery and C. E. Walker with H. G. Sullivan say they were robbed at 1:45 a m by a white man who emerged from weeds and brandished a gun. Lowery was robbed of 29 dollars, Walker 21, Sullivan 5. The men were driven to Third and Olive before the suspect vanished. Supt. H D Apgar says investigators consider the possibility of a framed hold-up.
George Zeigler a 29 year old Atlanta man is to be taken to Tulsa Oklahoma for trial on charges tied to stock swindles totaling 80000 dollars He was arrested after code telegrams received at the Atlanta Y M C A provided clues to his location He had previously jumped a 10000 bond and allegedly attempted to gain control of Noble Oil and Gas company of Tulsa by faking requisitions and organizing dummy companies
Associated Press reports screen comedian Harold Lloyd is bedridden with a high fever from a severe cold. Doctor says little danger of complications but bed rest is advised. Lloyd contracted the illness while filming a new picture in Brooklyn as his father Jassie Lloyd travels from Toulon Illinois to be with him.
President James B. Hill of the N. C. and St. L Railway presents a certificate of merit to W. W. Harris for 35 years of service during a ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia.
John McNutt alias John Mack alias John Williams, a about 25 year old African American repeat offender, was arrested by City Detective L. V. Tarver on two shoplifting counts after police found stolen overcoat and sweater and a pawned pistol on his person. Detectives linked pawned items including checks and a gold charm to local robberies. McNutt previously had several charges. He is described as tall and yellow skinned with all fingers on his left hand cut off.
The Very Rev William Inge, the gloomy dean of St Pauls, predicts in the Evening Standard that by 1950 homes will be childless and servantless across Britain. He describes bungaloid districts with couples in motor cars, meals from delicatessens, and heated by gas or electric cookers.
