The FBI reports a 1 percent rise in thefts and a 6 percent fall in murders for the first half of the year. Overall crime edged up 3 percent from 1975, with murder down 12 percent and other categories including rape and robbery also declining. The data comes from 9,160 agencies, noting that actual crime may outpace reported figures. Attorney General Levi contrasts the rise with a larger 13 percent surge in early 1975.
Gov. Edwin Edwards delays the October special session to October 19 and 29 to craft a four year plan for pay raises for teachers and state employees.
