Voters in Twin City and Ouachita Parish face a Saturday runoff to decide winners in 10 races. John Hunt and John Garrett contest the Third Louisiana Public Service Commission seat. Monroe School Board seats and several Ouachita posts are also on the ballot across numerous wards. Registration rose by 667 since the first primary, to 37,241 eligible Ouachita voters.

An antitank rocket bomb shattered windows and disrupted a Sandy Hill neighborhood in Ottawa near the Cuban Embassy. No injuries reported. A unexploded rocket was found nearby and disarmed by bomb experts after a carrier boy noted a suitcase and car near the scene. FBI agents seized loaded dice marked playing cards and other gambling apparatus from Jones Brothers Parlor Supply Co in Jefferson Parish under warrants. Owner Haskell F. Jones was arrested Sept 15 on interstate gambling equipment charges and released on $5,000 bond. 24 Die As Burning Viscount Crashes On Australian Farm
A Viscount airliner of Ansetta Ana Airways crashed on a sheep farm near Winton Queensland killing all 24 aboard. Captain Ken Cooper 41 and First Officer John Gillam 29 identified among the dead. The plane was en route from Mount Isa to Brisbane after reporting an engine fire. Weather was reported perfect and the crash marked Australia's worst air disaster since 1961.
