Secretary of Labor Perkins said average retail prices for living essentials in large cities rose two-tenths of one percent from mid-July to mid-August, pushing overall levels to 28 percent above 1939 wartime benchmarks. Clothing up seven tenths, eggs up seven percent seasonally, offsetting declines in other foods.
