Mrs E A Porter and family hear from son E A Porter Jr of Hawaii via radio program Hawaii Calls on WNOE New Orleans. Porter, a Navy veteran with Pearl Harbor citation, is stationed in Hawaii. His sister Edna Farley and Private Yelvie Bondurant wed Sept 19 at Sicily Island with Rev Harold Tew officiating. Bondurant to Barksdale Field.
The Barkdull Faulk Parent Teacher Association opened its year with a large turnout. New president Mrs H N Black led the meeting as the study club discussed the Parent-Teacher magazine and subscription drive. Rev Father Freiburg spoke on religious instruction in public schools and the need for systematic home and school religious training.

Tuesday listings show Junior Girl Reserves and Sophomore groups meeting at the YWCA for club organization at 4 15 p.m. plus several church circles and the Business and Professional Women's club at 8 p.m. Full area groups include Stone Avenue Methodist First Baptist and First Christian societies with circle assignments and host addresses. A Wednesday Monroe Literary Club gathering and multiple PTA and Rainbow events follow, with several personal notices of Miss Laura Flournoy and visiting family members.
Miss Vera Ruth Van Zelfden, first Tallulah applicant accepted by the WAAC, has received official notice awaiting assignment. A Tallulah High School graduate, she studied at Soule Business College New Orleans and earned Red Cross home nursing certification. Her Madison Parish residence since 1922 and Columbia family background are noted.
Mrs Mattie F Krauser 76 died in Greenville Mississippi during a short visit. Funeral set for Tuesday 4 pm at Dixie Funeral Chapel. She leaves sons J W Taylor Allen Taylor Julius W Taylor and daughters C M Partin J H Jensen J C Carey plus a brother and sister and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pallbearers named K A Calhoun P L Wallace Edgar Sholars EE Logan Charley Zagone J T Tolson.
Funeral services were held at the family residence for Mrs. N. G. Elkins 45 of West Monroe died in a local sanitarium. Dr C E Autrey officiated with interment in Hasley cemetery. Survived by husband two daughters father two brothers sister and other relatives. Dixie Funeral Home directed arrangements.
