The Shanklin children Theodore and Siebert two to seven years old sue for $10,000 under the dramshop act. Their mother Mrs Bessie Shanklin was shot by her husband Benjamin Shanklin while intoxicated and then killed himself August 31 at their home. Defendants include saloonkeeper John B Fitzpatrick and property owner Victoria Koppe.
Bingham Utah September 20 The seventeen hundred employees at Garfield concentrating plants, closed for lack of ore from Bingham mines, join six thousand mine workers idle as a result of the strike. The situation remains unsettled with little prospect of settlement.
Lexington report says Rose Run Iron mines in Bath county have armed guards around the properties during a three month strike. A reward has been offered for the arson of the railroad trestle feeding the mines and extensive damage has been reported at the plant.
Charleston West Virginia soldiers and bloodhounds search the Carbon creek mountains for arsonists who set fire to a coal tipple and the superintendent's residence. Two trails are being followed through dense woods, with reinforcement by another infantry company. Jos Cleveland, state Owls organizer, will depart for Baton Rouge to reopen the charter.
