In Sturgis Kentucky eight Negro pupils were barred from Sturgis High School by principal H Karl Evans under a Union County School Board order. A crowd of about 250 gathered as the students arrived in a car driven by Shelby Garnett. Lt Col Clarence O Buschescorted two into the building to retrieve books, then the youths left to cheers. A local woman attacked the car trunk with fists and a man praised her courage. The students said they would not attend Dunbar, an all Negro school at Morganfield, though plans varied among siblings.

Angolan Escapees Held in Oklahoma After Patrol Capture

Woman Tries Suicide in Monroe City Jail
