Soldier Hurt In Accident Near West Monroe
A 40 year old soldier, Doward D. Atkins of Chapel Hill, sustained minor injuries after losing control of his 1948 DeSoto coupe on old Farmerville road eight and four tenths miles northwest of West Monroe. He was treated at St. Francis for cuts and bruises and was in civilian clothes. State police cited the crash as a loss of control while making a curve and noted Atkins’ army classification was not available Friday.

Warning Flares At Ditch Burn Child
Marlis Parker five year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Earl Parker of Bastrop is in Bastrop General Hospital with second and third degree burns. A pipe ditch for a water line on North Marable Street used flares to mark the area. The girl playing near the flares fell into flames and was saved by her mother and neighbors.
