Highway Robber Sentenced to Nine to Eighteen Years
E H Patton, a young white man, was sentenced by District Judge T F Bell in Caddo parish court to nine to 18 years in the state penitentiary for highway robbery. He pleaded guilty to hijacking and robbing a Tri-State bus near Keithville on June 17 and to additional robberies on May 30 and June 10, totaling less than $60. The court imposed three to six year terms on each count, to run concurrently.

Workman Killed In Quarry Sand Sifter Accident
Willie Leach 21, a worker at Louisiana Quarry five miles west of Winnfield, fell into an electrically driven sand sifter early Wednesday and was instantly killed. A fellow worker saw the fall. it took hours to remove the mutilated body. Leach had worked about six weeks. his mother lives in Creston. The body is held by a local undertaking establishment while a brother is sought. It is the second fatal accident at the plant in recent weeks.
