Arlie McKenzie a 30 year old farmer from Jackson Tennessee was found dead in his car four miles north of Jackson on the old McDonald road. Police say he was battered with a fractured skull and a blood trail led from the car for about a block. He left home Monday night saying he would take a ride and did not return. He left a wife and two children behind.
United Press reports Forest B. Jackson says counties that sought federal aid before the Stansel act will get immediate release if the U S Bureau of Public Roads approves. The potential $3,000,000 federal aid would be matched by counties including Washington Madison Lauderdale Hinds Jones Newton Forrest and Covington with a $1,270,000 release already approved but full release depends on Mississippi legislature action.
In Chicago on September 16 a crowd of several hundred negroes seized tools from white workers on a street car line extension in a black district and demanded work. Police containment prevented violence. organizers argued half the jobs should go to black workers. No disturbances after police arrival.

Pipe will expand the water main into Major McGuire park and Ransom addition with most laid within two projects.
In New Orleans on September 16 the trial of Earl Long brother of Governor Long and attorney for the inheritance tax faced a continuance. The dispute with Frank P. Krieger arose from a confrontation on Royal Street with charges of assault and battery and disturbance of the peace. Krieger appeared with counsel and secured a $100 bond affidavit. Long’s attorney obtained a parole for him by telephone.
Four persons were burned to death and a fifth seriously burned when a house owned by Mrs. J. M. Wells at Casanova near Warrenton burned today. The victims include George, Francis and Stuart Wells and Miss Mary Hall of West River Maryland. Mrs. Wells is hospitalized in Fauquier in serious condition. The blaze started from an oil stove.
Burkett Vann, 28, staying at a hotel in Dothan Alabama, called two doctors and fired a pistol shot into his left chest after asking the switchboard to hold. The bullet lodged above the heart but he is expected to recover. Domestic trouble was blamed for the act.
In Port Huron Michigan on September 16 a Smith's Creek businessman Raymond Matecki fired a shotgun at five robbers trying to break into a bank safe and detonate a charge. He alarmed the bank and the men fled in a car. Matecki believes he wounded one. Smith's Creek lies 15 miles west of Port Huron and is noted in local lore for an Edison train incident.
Two unmasked men held up H. H. McNeil, Railway Express agent in Marianna Florida shortly before noon today and escaped with a $7,000 currency and silver shipment plus about $600 of express funds. The money was from a local bank to the Federal Reserve Bank in Jacksonville destined for a passenger train due in an hour.
