Coast Guard says oil slick unlikely to reach North Carolina coast
Coast Guard officials in Portsmouth say a five mile long oil slick from the collision off Cape Hatteras is unlikely to reach NC shores. The slick shifted to sea as freighters Republica de Colombia and Trans-Hawaii drifted 19 miles northeast, with one missing presumed dead and four injured. A tug was en route to assist separation of the ships.
