An explosion in a water tunnel under the Missouri River near Kansas City is believed to have killed eight construction workers who were on site last night. Engineer Charles Foreman reported no sounds after the blast and the crew had been at work since 11 p m with two dynamite cases found nearby. The tunnel is part of Kansas City's new water system.
With most precincts reported Broussard leads Sanders by a slim margin for renomination. Broussard emphasizes a wet platform and Lake Pontchartrain bridge. Crain trails on a dry ticket backing a prohibition vote. Final tallies show Broussard at 83 716 to Sanders 80 901 from 1 282 of 1 329 precincts.
Lieutenant Wright Vermilya, an army flyer, hurried from a civilian plane to Brazil Indiana to be with his wife who was badly hurt in an automobile accident. He learned en route that Mrs Vermilya had died when a friend's car overturned near the scene. He planned to transfer to a faster army ship in St Louis.
Washington Court House Ohio reports Hoxie Stinson former wife of Jesse W. Smith who testified in the Daugherty investigation married Philip E. Brast an oil operator in Ky on September 3. The announcement came on her return from New York.
In the Fourth District election J T Shell of Bastrop Clarke won by about four hundred votes. Shell carried Morehouse parish 898 to 90 and Ouachita parish 1485 to 1840 for Clarke. Monroe backed Shell, West Monroe favored Shell, while other wards split, with Sanders and Broussard trading leads in several parishes.
Across nine states results were mostly unsettled with Michigan offering an exception as Governor Groesbeck trailed Mayor Green. In Maryland Senator Jones and Governor Ritchie both topped rivals, while Vermont and Massachusetts renominated their incumbents. Louisiana and Maryland featured tense senatorial contests with party lines hardening.

Police report Monroe parish and West Monroe had the quietest election day on record with no arrests and no disturbances at any booths. Officers stated the overall process was orderly in Monroe and surrounding areas.
Gustave Kohler a 21 year old New Orleans bartender confessed to killing a man named Bennie Quinn in New York City on October 12 1925. He said Quinn and another gang member tried to beat him up and that he fled New York with help from Robert Martinez. Kohler then plotted to confront Martinez over an affair claim and fired three shots but fled when conditions worsened. Martinez alerted police about Kohler’s New York incident.
In Leakesville Mississippi Judge I M Bourdeaux summoned additional witnesses after hearing 29 witnesses from both sides on whether Kinnie Wagner can receive a fair trial in Green County for the alleged killing of Deputy Sheriff Murdock McIntosh. The group was ordered to appear as court opened.
Los Angeles officials reopen the Aimee Semple McPherson kidnapping probe amid new charges and witness calls. Lorraine Wiseman-Sielaff, alleged to have helped frame the tale, faces further questioning as Mrs. McPherson admits employing her to contradict reports of a Carmel cottage stay. Bernice Morris purportedly confesses to talks with McPherson about the plan to create mythical captors.
Raney Johnson of Pickett Arkansas, 30, arrested near Tallulah by Deputy U S Marshal R A Gehringer. He is jailed in Monroe on $1000 bond, facing federal charges under the motor vehicle theft act. Authorities seek removal to Arkansas for trial after allegedly stealing a Ford touring car from Pickett in October 1923 and driving to Memphis where he borrowed $16.

New Orleans August 116. United States Senator Edwin Broussard leads former Governor Jered Sanders in the Democratic primary by 2422 votes with 122 scattered rural precincts unreported. At noon 1207 of 1820 precincts reported Broussard 80902 Sanders 78570 while missing rural areas and about a dozen from Caddo parish remain.
