Monday at 3 30 p m the Jew ish Ladies Aid Society and Cemetery Association hold their first regular meeting while the Y M H A Club gathers. Tuesday 4 p m Baptist Woman s Missionary Society holds its regular monthly program at First Baptist Church. Monday also hosts an Eastern Star regular meeting and initiation at the Masonic Temple at p m with all members and visitors welcome.
Dr I J Newton has returned from an extended trip to northern points and spent time at Mayo Brothers Sanitorium in Rochester Minnesota En route to Monroe he stopped at Portland Little Rock and Wilmot Arkansas.
W. R. Heard of Bernice Louisiana visited Monroe on business. Mrs. A. N. Williams Mrs. J. A. Davenport and Mrs. J. W. Darby from Met Rouge spent Friday in town. Mrs. Ferdinand Cahn and daughter were also mentioned in the social notes.
Miss Carolyn Cahn returns from two months in Denver and Manitou Colorado visiting Waco en route home. Miss Lottie Powell guests of sister Mrs A B Andrews at Met Rouge. Mr and Mrs W H Hampton relocate to West Monroe to start a new business. Mr and Mrs William Durwood Cahn announce birth of William Durwood Jr at Lake View plantation Corey Louisiana. Cecil Jarrell, son of Mr and Mrs W A Jarrell, is a patient at St Francis Sanitarium. Mrs Minnie M Ruffin arrives from Biloxi Mississippi to assume duties in city schools. A G Cook editor of Monroe News Star visits and recalls former service as editor of Minden Democrat.
Miss Claire DeGraffenreid travels to Robeline Louisiana to begin a year as domestic science teacher. She planned her move after concluding previous duties and will start work today.
Numerous social notices list visits and trips by residents from Monroe to Vicksburg Ruston Vidalia and Shreveport. Individuals include Mrs J Harper Mrs A B Smith Mrs Harry Russell and families with travels to Cincinnati Monroe Texas and Arkansas.
Miss Margaret Sparks hosted the Saturday Bridge Club at 3 50 p m. Lula Merrill won the club prize a pair of embroidered pillow cases and Mrs B M Jackson won the guest prize. Miss Irma Russ took consolation a crepe de chine camisole. Four new members were admitted Mesdames B M Jackson Nelson Abel Melville S Dixon and Miss Irma Russ.

The Fort Miro Chapter D A R held its season opener at the Riverside Club with Mrs A D Harlan as host and Mrs E L Owens presiding. Plans were discussed for a memorial boulder at the old Fort Miro site and a benefit card party at the Riverside Club to fund the project.
Mrs Mary C Smith wife of Jesse J Smith of the Y and M V shops in Monroe died Tuesday at her Past South street home after a lingering illness aged 67. A Vicksburg native and Baptist, she leaves four sons and four daughters and was mourned as a devoted wife mother and cheerful helper to the needy. Funeral was held Wednesday at 4 30 from her residence with Rev J C Greenoe officiating.
Monroe Shriners prepare for a large supper at the Masonic Temple to back a forthcoming El Karubah Temple minstrel show tour set for October 16. Shrine officials and Eastern Star members organize a banquet, with Henry Haase coordinating invites and last minute corrections noted. Harvey Benoit and Joe Gayne sing, and Albert Thornton performs a comic ice cream cone imitation.
Confederate veterans plan the twenty ninth Atlanta reunion in October traveling by rail, road, and other means. Most will use the one cent a mile government rate, with relatives eligible for the same fare, easing their journey to the event.
