Sidney Manheim Missouri Pacific station agent died after a beating at Columbia depot and a lynching followed. Gilman Holmes, a Plaquemine man, confessed to taking part in the murder attempt and robbery before his execution by hanging as vigilantes restrained by order.
San Francisco grand jury voted twelve to two to indict Roscoe Arbuckle for manslaughter in the Virginia Rappe death. An indictment will be filed in superior court Thursday while murder charges remain active in a justice court, said District Attorney Brady. Mrs. Minta Durfee, Arbuckle’s wife, left New York for San Francisco to assist him, though they have been separated for five years. The true bill cites testimony placing Arbuckle in the room as Rappe moaned I’m dying.
Sidney Manheim, Missouri Pacific Railroad and Western Union agent in Columbia, was found unconscious in the depot freight room with a crushed skull after an attack by a strange Negro. The end drawer was robbed and an attempt to open the iron safe failed. Cicero Barnes saw Manheim with a stranger Negro at about 12 30. Meredith discovered him at 1 p.m. Manheim, a married father, had recently moved from Fenton, and his wife planned to teach at Columbia High School.
H C Morris trustee representing an eastern capitalists syndicate finished Tensas Delta No 1 well in Morehouse parish extending the field about half a mile northwest. The Morehouse field is now limited by the Union parish line. This becomes Morris trustee's fourth producer with six other wells either drilling or planned within sixty to ninety days.
The Monroe Chamber of Commerce junior board plans to circulate petitions for paving St John Catalpa South Second DeSiard Pine streets and Ouachita and Louisville avenues. Third and Walnut have enough signatures to proceed. City officials and business leaders attended the meeting and formed a committee with named street assignments and local officials.
Mrs W C Youngblood died in Shreveport yesterday at 4 30 pm after a twenty four hour illness. Formerly Ruth Millsaps she was born the daughter of Mrs Uriah Millsaps and a former resident of this city. She leaves husband four children, her mother two sisters and two brothers. The funeral is set for 5 pm with Rev Wallace Clift officiating and burial in New City Cemetery.

It outlines sale procedures, public notices, and a petition veto, with passage uncertain and timelines spanning weeks.

Surviving relatives include widow, two children Martha and Sidney Jr, two brothers A J and Sam of Shreveport, four sisters, and funeral plans reference Shreveport interment at 4 40 p m.
Winston Gill, a farmer near Rastrop Mer Rouge, was indicted by the More House parish grand jury for wounding P. J. Willis. Officials suggest Willis was mistaken for a revenue officer amid moonshine activity near the Gill farm as Willis traveled from Mer Rouge to Bastrop to a theater.
In a recorded response to Miss Rappe, Miss Pryvon and Miss Blake testified Arbuckle said shut up you're crazy I'll throw you out the window. The jury then retired for deliberation at 10 o'clock after about two hours of witness testimony including Miss Halstead.
The coroner's jury could not determine who among Columbia residents lynched Gilman Holmes, a Plaquemine Black man. Sheriff McClanahan reports Holmes helped rob the Missouri Pacific station and coerce a $200 money order, with portions found near Grayson and in his shoe. Approximately $35 was stolen. about $7 in greenbacks were found in Holmes's shoes, and the sack of money was recovered. The search continues around Riverton for the other suspect.
The Monroe baseball team ends its season with three games against the Shreveport Gasers of the Texas League at Forsythe Park on September 23, 24, and 25. Manager Harry Prophit calls it the greatest time of the season as both clubs boast long winning streaks. Monroe also hosts Clarks next Sunday.
