Fire destroys Terzia High School for Negroes near Monroe
Early morning fire destroyed Terzia High School south of Monroe with losses estimated at 250 000 to 300 000 dollars. The Monroe fire department responded at 5 30 a m and saved part of the north wing but overall damage included eleven classrooms a cafeteria gymnasium and offices. Water supply hindered efforts as no nearby mains existed. Superintendent W W Ward said building and contents were insured and investigators pursue the cafeteria area as the probable starting point. The school opened in spring 1952.
