The cotton market opened lower amid hedge selling and weak stocks, with December and January contracts dropping to 7.88 and 7.96 respectively. A mid session rally faded as the market eased again, closing mixed with declines of about 45 to 49 points from the prior close, and Oct at 7.65. Exports for the day reached 40,867 bales.
New York price declines exceed two dollars per bale as weekend hedge selling and stock market weakness push December to around 7.77 and October near 8.00. Futures closed barely steady, with spot middling at 7.75 and overall declines of 42 to 45 points from earlier highs.
New York traders liquidate cotton as cables stay favorable and wet weather looms. Hedging sales push prices down over 2.50 a bale before late rally and finish strong. Trade buying resumes in afternoon trading. experts expect hedge selling to ease if wet weather continues.
Liverpool notes improved demand with no receipts and higher spot prices. Quotations show strict good middling at 7.01 pence and other grades rising. futures closed easy with October 6.04 and July 6.14.
Call money remained steady at 2 percent on the day in New York. Time loans held firm with 60 day terms at 11 4 to 1 1 4 percent and 3 6 month loans at 11 4 to 11 2 percent. Prime commercial paper and bankers' acceptances were unchanged with ranges across 30 to 180 days and 4 months to 6 months noted.

Chicago reports early trading shows demand slack as cotton prices fall. Wheat opens 1 8 to 5 8 lower and weakens further while corn drops 1 8 to 3 8 and remains under pressure. Wheat closes unsettled 13 4 to 2 cents under Saturday. corn 3 8 to 17 8 down. oats steady to 5 8 off. provisions fall 12 to 27 cents.
New Orleans fruit and vegetable lines were mostly steady. Prices included Louisiana snap beans 1.75 to 2.00 per bushel, okra 35 to 50, iceberg lettuce 3.00 to 3.10 per crate, cucumbers and squash around 1.00, celery 2.00 per half crate, artichokes 3.25 per box, and tomatoes 1.00 to 1.50 per lug. Other items listed include potatoes 1.15 to 1.50, onions 60 to 75 per 50 lb sack, cabbage 1.40 to 1.50 per cwt, garlic 5c per lb, peaches 1.75 to 2.00 per bushel, pears 1.75 to 2.10 per box, and Cuban pineapples 2.00 per crate.
Chicago cattle hogs and sheep prices from the USDA report show 36 000 hogs with 15 000 direct sales, 200 250 and 250 350 pound ranges, cattle at 19 000 head with steady vealers and slow demand, and 27 000 sheep with lambs and feeding lambs weak. Prices covered include hogs 4.60 4.65 and 3.25 4.50, cattle 7.00 10.15 and vealers 7.00 8.00, lambs 5.50 6.50 and ewes 1.50 2.50.
The New York foreign exchange market shows irregular trading with many currencies listed in dollars or francs. Major rates include Great Britain at 3.48 1 2 dollars, France 3.91 3 4, Italy 5.12 3 4, Belgium 13.85 1 2, Germany 23.77 1 2, and Mexico City silver peso at 30.10. (x) indicates nominal figures.
Sugar futures weakened as September fell from 1.10 to 1.05 and March from 1.05 to 1.02. By 2 p.m. the market was 2 to 3 points lower with closed bids 4-6 points down. Trades totaled 26,100 tons with front-month at 1.03 and deferreds near 1.00 to 1.04.

Poultry prices in Chicago on Sept 12 show values for alive stock by category. Hens, leghorn hens, fryers, springs, roosters, turkeys, spring ducks, old fowl, geese, and leghorn broilers range from 10 to 16 cents per unit with several specific quotations.
Potatoes in Chicago on Saturday and Sunday shipments totaled 646 with 140 on track. Wisconsin cobblers mostly 75 cents, Minnesota cobblers in Hollandale mostly 80, Minnesota early Ohios 75, Idaho Russell 1.35, Idaho Triumphs 1.20. Firm trading and good demand noted.
In Forest Hills, N Y, Pancho Vines defeats Cochet 6-4 6-4 6-4 to keep the national title. Other results include Helen Fulton winning the national girls title in Philadelphia and Katherine Rawls leading four national swimming and diving titles in Tempe Arizona.

A whiskey still about eight miles west of West Monroe near the Union parish line was destroyed last night by members of the sheriff's department. Approximately 350 gallons of mash were poured out. No one was present at the still when the arrest was made.
