Reese Lamb superintendent of the American Diamond Mining Co. narrowly escaped a fatal incident when a buck deer fell into a mine shaft he was cleaning. Lamb killed the animal with a knife after a tense struggle as hounds closed in. The incident occurred on a steep gravel hillside, with the deer suspected to have fallen while fleeing pursuers.
In Trenton on Sept 12 Rev Joseph Lambert of Providence married into the Astor Force. Clergymen condemn the ceremony as a degradation and an outrage, arguing money can buy chastity and damage women's virtues.

John Henry Rogers a city lineman died instantly at about 5 30 pm yesterday while connecting wires at the top of a pole on Adams street near Thirteenth street He touched a live circuit delivering 2200 volts and died as fellow workers removed him He was 31 years old survived by a wife Miss Morgan of Camden Ark and a four year old son The funeral will be at his North Sixth street home at 10 30 am tomorrow conducted by Rev J A H Wharton Interment at Hasley cemetery Trenton He belonged to Geo L Wood Camp Woodmen of the World which will attend in a body
William Wirt Ellis a 28 year old Louisiana College student was killed on Main street Alexandria Louisiana while returning from church. Byron B Long his friend was injured when an unknown black assailant used a fence picket to strike Ellis in the head. Long was not seriously hurt and is able to be out. The killer fled and despite searches no arrests have been made.
About 150 people in Sunset Louisiana heard Hon. Luther E Halli and Hon. A P Pujo speak. Judge Hall said he has no personal ambition for governor and would be fine with any outcome, noting he has something to fall back on. Both speeches were fairly well received.
Prohibition appeared to win by a 4 588 vote majority carrying every county in the state. Afterward anti prohibitionists paused then renewed efforts in later years. Repeal requires legislative action before the 1857 statute can be repealed and Gov Plaisted may call a special session per Democrat chatter.
Unofficial results from Monday's local option vote in Decatur show drys with a lead of about 300 votes, covering all of Morgan county except three precincts.
