Five men were killed in the fight. The Presidio line is down and details are unavailable. Conflicting dispatches suggest unclear outcome.

New York date Sept 11 The Southern Pacific Railroad Company asked the State Department in Washington to protect its interests in Mexico. The company issued telegrams stating that rebel forces ranging from 100 to 3000 were looting the country cutting telegraph wires and wrecking railroad bridges.
General W W Gordon, brigadier general in the Spanish American War and Confederate veteran, died today at White Sulphur Springs Virginia after a long illness. He served in the Cuban campaign and later returned to private life. His death ends a notable military career spanning two eras.
