Central Illinois and Indiana suffer vast damage from floods as rains wash out roads and rail lines. Seven deaths are confirmed with dozens hurt. crops and factories lie idle across the region. Authorities warn of rising waters and lingering unsettled weather amid heavy rainfall figures and power outages.
Rumor spread that Premier Skrzynski would wed Henry Ford's daughter, allegedly an heiress bringing 300 million dollars to Poland. City headlines startled residents until American officials clarified Henry Ford has no daughter.
In Muskegon Michigan a posse hunted Elmer Woodward 30 after he allegedly killed Celia Barnes 34 and wounded Isabel 15 when the woman tried to protect her daughter Woodward is said to have lured Isabel from the Barnes home claiming his daughter was ill and then struck Celia and Isabel with a car jack before fleeing into nearby woods.
New Orleans inspectors raided a four story liquor plant with over thirty distillery vats and a daily capacity above 2 000 gallons. Several thousand gallons of raw alcohol were seized and five men were detained including J B Kessler the alleged operator a young woman bookkeeper and three negro workers. Prohibition officials called the raid the largest in the history of the movement.
Legal efforts to free Roy Carson and Thomas Nelson proceed as Carson, 45, endures bread and water while awaiting county physician review after a liquor law conviction. If the doctor deems him unable to continue the diet, discharge or release may follow. Nelson, 58, shares the jail sentence with Carson.

Four robbers seized mail worth about 350000 on a Grand Trunk train near Chicago today and fled in an awaiting automobile. The heist occurred in Evergreen Park on the far southwest side with police alerted after the crime.

In Chester Pennsylvania two masked men in a touring car killed 19 year old Walter Harden when he shielded two Chester girls on a lonely road near Bridgewater. Anne Klemsey 17 and Florence Scott 14 were assaulted and remained under medical care. William Hamilton escaped and alerted police.

Georges Michel a 36 year old Paris baker completed his tenth attempt to swim the English Channel. He landed at St Margaret s Bay at 7 30 this morning after entering from Cape Gris Nez at 8 25 last night.
A Ford truck driven by D L George collided with a second truck owned by I D Wallace at the corner of Ten and Natchitoches streets. George, aged 9, was crushed and died an hour after the collision near Riverside sanitarium. Alvie Malone drove Wallace’s truck. both crews carried lumber. The accident occurred at 3 p m yesterday as George attempted to turn onto Natchitoches.
The strike of 3,000 musicians in 409 Chicago movie theatres ended as an agreement was reached after four days of talks. The deal provides a $4.50 weekly raise for two years plus a $3 weekly boost in the third year. Musicians return to work today after negotiations resolved on most points, including contract length.
