Central union leaders and railroad chiefs keep mum amid looming Monday actions. Judge Wilkerson to hear government stake move while six craft policy committee meets. Strike enters eleventh week with general quiet. multiple arrests tied to vandalism and fatality cases across Oklahoma to Tennessee.
In Chicago a motion to vacate the temporary restraining order against the shop crafts union, including Bert M. Jewell and John Scott, was filed in U.S. district court. Washington reports say the government seeks dismissal of the IBEW injunction petition and notes Chicago has jurisdiction for relief. A separate DC court issued a temporary injunction restraining a U.S. marshal from interfering with IBEW meetings and strike activities, with renewal possible after Chicago order expires.
Seth W. Poston Frank H. Miller Albert M. Johns and Charles M. Monk were indicted for first degree murder in the Chas Lanier Jr. killing. They pleaded not guilty at arraignment and were remanded to Shelby County jail awaiting trial.
Jesse Sweetser of New York, at twenty one, defeats Chick Evans of Chicago on the 16th green to win the United States amateur golf title at Brookline Massachusetts. Evans, a two time champion, succumbs in the final match at the Country Club.
Associated Press forecasts a week starting Monday with considerable cloudiness and local showers in the East Gulf, normal temperatures, and no early disturbance in the West Indies. The West Gulf should be generally fair with scattered thundershowers and normal temperatures.
In Jackson California on September 9 1942 chemical readings suggested the 47 miners trapped for 12 days at the Argonaut gold mine are alive. Argonaut officials offered a $5000 reward to the first crew reaching them as tests showed no lethal gases at 2500 feet and air appeared breathable below.
In Hattiesburg Mississippi a family including Dr Fern Champenois his wife and their young son Hall fell ill after drinking buttermilk stored too long in a tin. Doctors treated them through the night and early today they were reported out of danger.
Washington reports on Mrs. Harding's condition as doctors note less threatening complications and a fairly good night. A 8 a m temperature appeared near normal, officials say, with Gates open at the White House for tours after inauguration.
The Morehouse parish grand jury reported no evidence to identify suspects in the kidnapping of five Mer Rouge residents and the attempted assassination of former mayor Dr. B. M. McKain. It noted no clues on the disappearance of Watt Daniels and Samuel Richards and said crime has declined since the prior session.
Texarkana city attorney William V. Brown received an anonymous letter warning him to get out of the Ku Klux Klan or the town. Brown denied Klan membership and challenged the writer to personal combat.
Chicago reports the heat wave that caused ten deaths and many prostrations over four days ended today. Intermittent showers followed and temperatures fell to 72 degrees after a 96.4 degree maximum yesterday.

Lexington Virginia September 9 Col Robert E Lee who died at Roanoke Thursday was laid to rest today in the Lee mausoleum at Washington and Lee University beside his grandfather General Robert E Lee and the latter's father Light Horse Harry Lee of revolutionary fame.
Washington reported the senate and house republican conferees reached a valuation agreement for the tariff bill. They would keep the senate basis of foreign valuation for duties, with house concessions yielding much of the American valuation plan. The basic plan adopts the senate method for duty assessment using foreign valuation.
Baton Rouge sept 9 governor Parker issued a proclamation urging Morehouse parish residents to aid in identifying mob participants in the kidnapping and possible murder of T F Richards and Watt Daniels of Mer Rouge. A $500 reward was offered and the attorney general directed to vigorously prosecute those responsible, condemning the Ku Klux Klan and pledging full state power to restore peace and order.
Smyrna endures Turkish bombardment while nine Greek planes reach the harbor area reporting artillery fire. A tenth aircraft was damaged on takeoff and could not continue. Venizelos reportedly seen at Smyrna though unconfirmed amid Allied and French positions on European footholds.
Federal District Attorney Cline announced he forwarded evidence in the case of several Pullman porters charged with smuggling whiskey aboard Illinois Central trains in New Orleans for disposal in Chicago. He said additional arrests were expected in New Orleans today.
