Bar Association Plebiscite Chooses Judicial Candidates

The Louisiana State Bar Association conducted a plebiscite on September 6 1932 to identify best fitted candidates for the First Supreme Court District and for the First and Third Districts of the Court of Appeal Second Circuit Ballots were counted by J Y Fauntleroy and Company and Flanagan Murphy The total ballots reported show 64 for the Court of Appeal First District 152 for the Third District and 188 for the First Supreme Court District with several named candidates and a secret ballot process involved.

DRUM CORPS TO GREET SPEAKER AT COURTHOUSE

The Rod ney J. Hobbs post drum and bugle corps of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will march from North Second street to the courthouse for an 8 o'clock lecture by M. W. Supt. E L Neville of Monroe city schools is a patient at St Francis Sanitarium after being taken there last night. His illness is not serious and he is expected to be discharged in four or five days.

Y'S Men's Club hears talk by L Hammonds on West Texas

Leon Hammonds spoke at the Y's Men’s club meeting in Hotel Virginia about West Texas and old Mexico with photographs. He also performed piano selections after the talk. Rev. Thomas J. Jett led the program. John Madden announced the new committee members: Thomas Frazer, Harris Tyson, Leon Hammonds and O. N. McNeil.

Red Cross Visit Ties Louisiana Fields To National Plans

Miss June Lonas, Louisiana Red Cross field representative, visited Monroe after attending a Washington conference with eastern field reps. She left for Baton Rouge and New Orleans as plans for the annual roll call were discussed. Government cotton 5,000,000 bales and 45,000,000 bushels of government wheat are to be distributed, with local production committees to weave garments from the cotton. Wheat will be turned into flour for Red Cross use, the second largest government consignment.

West Monroe Fire Destroys Home on North Second Street

A fire at 4 45 pm yesterday in West Monroe damaged the home of R M Harmon at 1301 North Second Street. The house suffered about 75 percent loss and furniture logs were total. Insurance carried was 2000 on the house and 1000 on furniture. Origin undetermined, likely from a rear stove or water heater. fire dept response noted.

Fire crews douse grass blaze on North Sixth Street

Flames were put out quickly after firefighters arrived, with crews remaining about 45 minutes. This morning at 9 45 West Monroe fire department extinguished a grass fire in the 600 block of North Sixth Street.
