Mexico City September 5 Gen Abelardo Rodriguez took office as president, backed by Gen Plutarco Elias Calles, succeeding Pascual Ortiz Rubio who resigned and left for Laredo en route to Hot Springs Arkansas. Rodriguez pledged friendship with the United States and defined the new government line. Ortiz Rubio said health not the main reason for his resignation.

The suspects are held in Nashville while George Oldham fled.
William Randolph Hearst, sole Hearst NY paper backer, warned James J. Walker he would drop support if Walker seeks reelection to attack Franklin D. Roosevelt. Hearst urged Walker resign and seek vindication from the people after attacking Roosevelt on resignation day.
Dr. Roy L. Davenport of LSU will give the principal address at a 7 30 PM reception on the Hotel Francis roof garden hosted by the Alumni federation of LSU for the fifth congressional district. H A Taylor said two local federation members will speak. Louis Gottlieb and Mrs Davenport will accompany the visitors who will stay Thursday night and depart Friday morning.
Dock M. Taylor, 47, of Laurel Mississippi, was struck by an automobile in New Orleans yesterday and suffered a probable skull fracture. The car was operated by Whit Downs, 41, of New Orleans, according to police.
