State police launched an area wide hunt for unknown car thieves after the blood spattered wreck of a stolen 1940 black Dodge coupe was found five miles south of the Morehouse parish line seven hours after the noon theft. The car owned by George B. Morris of Lyford Texas was demolished and a large amount of blood was inside. Police believe the escapee hitched a ride with a passing motorist to Monroe or nearby. No suspect descriptions or hospital leads have surfaced.
The National Association of Real Estate Boards and the Washington real estate board pleaded innocent to a federal indictment alleging conspiracy to fix commission rates in the District of Columbia. Counsel were granted permission to file an additional plea or motion by October 15.
In New Orleans a 65 year old man described as an odd job man was charged with cruelty after cutting off a seven week old mongrel tail with a pocket knife. He remains free on a $100 bond. The incident occurred while beer drinkers bored him outside a Little Woods general store and the puppy belonged to 11 year old Frankie Hamann. Paul Mantz, 42, piloted a P-51 Mustang from La Guardia, New York, to Lockheed Air Terminal, Burbank, finishing in 7 hours and 4 seconds to claim a record for propeller driven planes. He earlier won the Bendix race from Van Nuys to Cleveland at 460.423 mph. Mantz landed at 4 26 04 p m PST after radio silence and said he nearly ran out of fuel.

Kenton Ohio reports a 19 year old university student escaped a two day search after the Stinson 150 crash near Kenton. Charles Wood Gorman of Tucson identified the crash site and guided searchers to the bodies of five victims including William Streop and two women. The group had flown to Cleveland for air races and the wreck occurred before 8 10 p m Monday.
