Monroe Mayor W L Jack Howard postponed a planned meeting with Police Local 648 on the union nined contract re negotiations. He will review the Citizens Law Enforcement Committee report and discuss it with acting Police Chief R L Johnson before acting. The report proposes eliminating the four day work week closing the new communications center and selling the police airplane.
All city parish state and federal offices will be closed Monday for Labor Day. Post offices will suspend rural and city deliveries and window service. Chennault Park Recreation Area and Golf Course will be open. City Hall will close while fire and police stay on duty. Local chambers schools offices and tourist bureau will also close.
