Baltimore Md Oct 1 The Maryland Club opens its autumn meeting at Pimlico with readiness for a strong program and a large turnout of thoroughbreds expected. The feature events on opening day include the inaugural steeplechase for four year olds and the Wicomico purse for three year olds.
Moose Jaw College in Saskatchewan opened today with exercises and a notable gathering of visiting educators. The principal address of the day was delivered by Premier Walter Scott of the province.
In Minden Louisiana district court two youths from Shreveport named Sledge and McCann were convicted of dynamiting fish. Judge Sandhin sentenced each to twenty days in jail with an extra twenty days if costs are not paid. An appeal was filed by their lawyer Judge L K Watkins and both were released on $500 bonds. Sledge works at Shreveport Waterworks and McCann at Shreveport Saddlery.
Monroe readers learn Fluke r is being groomed as sub for Horace Winter. Fluker, 24, is among the best pupils the lower has had to work with in a long time. He will likely be used to fall, but Spencer has the first call on the right end.
Visitors to the Fair include J R Kavanaugh and N Clinton of Jackson Parish Elmore. Kavanaugh, an 82 year old merchant, received a phone message that three attempts were made to blow his store safe around 1 am. A clerk fired at the robbers as they fled after the last blast.
