A misplacement of six numbers in the draft lottery caused a 17 hour draw process ending with extra numbers found. Clarence A. Dykstra said a potential Detroit draftee with serial 158 could pursue legal action through the courts.
Walter C. Kent of Kentwood Louisiana the China National Aviation Corporation pilot was killed when a passenger liner was shot down by Japanese forces near Kunming China. Seven Chinese passengers died two survived including the co pilot. Kent would have turned 35. His widow Marie Brown and their son Peter survived. The captain was a Sewanee graduate and had trained in Texas before joining the line in 1937.
Senate subcommittee hearings to decide if United States Supreme Court justices’ phones were tapped during a pending decision. Counsel William Power Maloney cited October 1938 as the tapping time but did not name the case. Hearings set for Washington in the Senate office building.
Veterans Oliver and Broadfoot reported the first 19 as the initial number in the selective service lottery. Capsules and cards preserving numbers went to archives. volunteers could alter induction order by volunteering for a year of training.
Dr H Spencer Jones notes Venus may show rudimentary life forms as science suggests Earth did billions of years ago. German submarines reportedly punched a disastrous hole in British naval forces and air raids by German and Italian units hit major airports in London Liverpool Ramsgate and Coventry. The Red Star claims the British fleet dominates the eastern Mediterranean and vows a long battle with Greece Britain and Italy.

Two men were arrested in Richland parish early Wednesday as 800 pounds of white perch were seized by the Louisiana department of conservation. They faced transportation and illegal possession charges and were bonded at 250 dollars each in Rayville. The catch, likely headed to Memphis for sale, came from a seine and was distributed among Monroe institutions including 300 pounds to the Baptist Children's Home, 450 to the Louisiana Training Institute, and 50 to the Home of the Good Samaritan.
Laigh C. Parker of the Ouachita unit announces praise for a conservation department agent following the arrest of two men for illegal possession of game fish. The Ouachita parish chapter says this shows strict enforcement of state conservation laws. Continued on Third Page.

A blaze swept the fourth floor of the war department munition building on Constitution Avenue early today, damaging secret papers. Officials cited a possible short circuit or cigarette as the cause while an army board investigates sabotage, accident or negligence. Firefighters also battled a Lewis Hotel blaze, with 15 firefighters overcome by gas during the response.

White House official Stephen Early said President Roosevelt would reveal new aid to Britain in a Boston address. He warned reporters not to overstate the plan and suggested prior ities could be involved without taking away any American military equipment.
Secretary Knox announced a $1,224,000 contract to Goodyear Aircraft Corp for six new rigid airships to be used for coast patrol and training. Delivery is in about a year. Captain Charles E Rosendahl said the blimps could help spot mines submarines and convoy shipping in war. Additions will extend to Hawaiian waters.
