He opposed flogging and said the group favored a law making flogging or conspiracy to flog a penitentiary offense. Also named were Judge C J Orbison and General N B, with the deposition read in court.
The Associated Press reports in Norfolk Nebraska that a record cold October left 3 to 6 inches of snow on the ground across northern Nebraska. The area’s minimum temperature last night fell to minus six degrees.
The weather bureau predicts overcoat and heavy wrap temperatures tonight in Northern Louisiana as a cold wave approaches. Temperatures between 32 and 36 degrees are forecast for the north, with rain and colder weather expected for New Orleans and vicinity. Local lows will dip to 54 or 52 degrees tonight.
In Atlanta on October 30 a deposition in Fulton county court disclosed that Ku Klux Klan investigator S N Littlejohn claimed J J Bracewell advised against going to Mer Rouge Louisiana to probe the disappearance of two men and that the bodies found in the lake were tied or spread eagle on logging cart wheels and rolled down a hill. Littlejohn testified he used the alias George K Lawrence and operated under Klan direction to avoid indictments as officials sought the receivership for the KKK.
Louisiana Governor John M. Parker criticized a 10 day stay on justice during remarks in New Orleans. He spoke to a crowded auditorium about the Bastrop open hearing in January into masked band activities in Morehouse Parish.
