A British steamer was sunk by a submarine Saturday with no warning, resulting in American casualties among the crew and passengers. The incident heightened tensions as reports identified the vessel and nationalities involved.
Consul Frost reports from Queenstown that the British steamer Marina was torpedoed. Only 34 crew members aboard. 104 were picked up and landed at Brookhaven, Ireland. An official investigation will provide a fuller provisional report later.
