Odom Tullos, 18, of Lapine, died after a 16 gauge shotgun discharged in a rowboat while he handed it to a companion during a squirrel hunt. The accident occurred in dense woods near the Cheniere area as two friends rowed the body three fourths of a mile to shore. The incident was reported to have happened yesterday afternoon.
The twenty second annual Louisiana state fair begins in Shreveport with ideal weather. The event runs through November 6 featuring seven days of horse racing three days of automobile racing and various entertainments including football games. Candidates for state and local offices speak on candidates day with presidential speakers possible November 2. W R Willis of Missouri is granted ten minutes for Senator James A Reed.
Booth Tarkington, famed novelist and dramatist, may preserve sight in his left eye through a new treatment reported as highly successful. Mrs. Tarkington said the poet is not facing total blindness and that further details would be on page twelve.
Monroe to house a new large scale pipe and supply operation on Missouri Pacific property at Tenth and Olive. A $150000 stock, broad field development assortment, and ties to S. Bender Iron and Supply of Shreveport position Monroe as a regional wholesale hub for Richland field growth and north east Louisiana oil and gas activity. The firm, a Monroe subsidiary of the longtime Shreveport company, expands from El Dorado and Tullos locations.
Captain Richard P. Hobson told the state W C T U convention in Meriden Connecticut that America is under siege by liquor and opium traffic, with threats along coasts and land frontiers. The Associated Press report frames his warning as a call to action for national temperance efforts.

The kidnapped relatives of Resident-General Steeg and two women companions in the Middle Atlas send a pencil note through a Moor runner. They request quinine and especially tobacco, reporting the women are greatly fatigued. Negotiations with Moorish brigands continue, with no troops sent until prisoners’ safety is assured.
In Portland on October 27 Dr. Augustua C. Thomas Maine state commissioner of education urged teachers to maintain up to date appearance. He said teachers should look good and in reasonable style to gain greater influence in their schools.
Ruth Elder and Captain George W. Haldeman arrived in Madrid from Lisbon aboard a Junkers plane at 2 16 p m. They were met by American Ambassador Ogden Hammond and the Spanish aviation commander and will stay at the American embassy before planning a Bayonne Paris air trip and a Mauretania voyage.
Calcasieu Parish and the Louisiana highway commission may share the cost of a toll free ferry at Lake Charles to restore traffic after a shipping board vessel collision disabled the highway bridge. Major Payne estimated daily operating costs at 180 dollars with six to seven months bridge repairs, totaling up to 40 thousand dollars plus repair costs. Franklin La October 27 Clarence Adone a World War veteran was found guilty of murder without capital punishment for fatally wounding Sam Habeb of New Orleans on a Southern Pacific passenger train near Morgan City last September. The defense had raised insanity and a sanity commission will determine his fate with sentence deferred.

Baton Rouge October 27 A formal protest against certification of J. E. Dunshie of New Orleans as a candidate for secretary of state was filed by James J. Bailey of Baton Rouge with Harvey G. Fields, chairman of the democratic state legislative committee. Bailey contends he is the democratic nominee and argues the primary law fixes a twenty day filing period.
Texarkana Ark Oct 27 Melvin M Brackman constable of Sulphur Township was held to the Miller County grand jury on a manslaughter charge in the death of Morris Barnett near Dodd Ridge Ark Barnett died from a fractured skull after a pistol blow while Brackman tried to arrest him testimony at the hearing showed the sequence of events
In Atlanta Thomas F. Woodlock of the interstate commerce commission heard executive session testimony from cotton shippers urging reduced carrying rates. Hearings will also be held in Gulfport Oklahoma City and Dallas with no public reports until all sessions end. In Washington Dr. Frederick A. Cook, the explorer, won a Supreme Court review of a circuit court decision blocking probation release in a mail fraud case.
Atlantic reports Atlanta faces a debutante shortage with only eight girls to be presented at the Halloween ball down from twenty six last year. Educations and work preferences cited as causes as seven girls attend a local co educational college with headlines about students eloping. entwined are the granddaughters of James R Gray editor of the Atlanta Journal in the debutantes circle.
Survivors from the Italian steamship Principessa Mafalda reached Bahia aboard the Mosella with about 100 rescued. Crew members feared over 600 perished, some said sharks fed on victims, while others reported 1,170 to 1,200 rescued by multiple ships and 68 to 88 missing.
Twenty five hundred clergy members of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States vote nearly two to one that prohibition fails as a solution to intemperance. The nationwide poll was announced by Rev. Dr. Charles Livingston of the church temperance board.
In New Orleans two young women were found dismembered in separate trunks at 715 Ursuline Street. Police said they were murdered. identities were unknown, and residents denied knowledge. Superintendent Healey led the investigation as police reserves arrived.
General Theodorus Pangalos, ex ruler of Greece, found guilty of high treason by a government inquiry commission. He will face trial in two months. Pangalos was deposed by General Kondylis in August 1926 during a seaside holiday on Spetses.
Chicago reports A J Herrmann designated four public library volumes as un American after review for bias. The Patriot's League recommended actions with others to be read. Mayor Thompson denies any burning order. Library chairman Preston Bradley pledges no book burnings, asserting fair play in governance.
