An 18 year old army private, John McElroy, stationed at Jackson Barracks in New Orleans, is in custody on a charge of stealing ration coupons worth 2 000 000 gallons of gasoline. Chicago authorities identified him and said he was wanted for the theft of the coupons. He admitted stealing them while employed by a Chicago firm contracted to print them for the government. The arrest followed a telegram from Julius L. Sherwin, Illinois state attorney, describing the incredible number of coupons stolen.
