United Press reports America's top bankers outlined a plan to curb unnecessary sacrifice of security values as the stock market again turned volatile. Trading remained brisk with 8.6 million shares changing hands and prices lagging by more than an hour after an active opening and strong first half hour.
In New York on October 25 four hundred extra patrolmen and a large mounted detail joined 50 patrolmen and 60 detectives to guard the Wall Street district. Police Commissioner Grover A. Whalen warned brokers to vet runners handling bonds and securities to prevent thieves exploiting the tense situation. Known criminals are kept beyond a drawn deadline around the financial section.
Slowed by many small sales that drained margin, the market saw irregularity as accounts sold off. A new banking pool led by J. P. Morgan & Co and banks like National City, Guaranty Trust, Chase, and Bankers Trust sought to prevent another recession by modestly supporting the market without bidding up stocks or profiting for member institutions.

About 300 white workers and 200 Filipinos clashed in Exeter following a stabbing of Adolph Bergman, 26. The mob attacked after the carnival and later at the Firebaugh ranch, with fires tried and many Filipinos fleeing into vineyards or by car.
In New Orleans today a man collapsed and died on a street. Only clue to his identity was the initials L. H. M on a grey felt hat. In the same city Abdul Nagil, 25, a fireman on the steamship Amapata, drowned after falling into the Mississippi River. his body remained missing.
Grace Kirkpatrick a ranch girl near Briggsdale Colorado claimed a world record by slaughtering 75 rattlesnakes in two days She rode to safety after being surrounded by snakes then armed herself with clubs and killed the reptiles as they gathered to hibernate The cold weather allegedly lulled the snakes and made them easier to handle
Washington Oct 25 The census bureau reports 9 099 082 running bales of cotton ginned by Oct 18 1929 up from 8 152 71 last year including 205 205 round bales. State tallies include Texas 2 818 558 Alabama 954 810 Georgia 843 224 Mississippi 1 352 041 Arkansas 57 519 and others with all other states 2 107.
Tampa reports that 29 year old St Petersburg police officer W E Minor and fugitive Sam Williams were killed in a running gun battle early today, according to Advices received here.
In Morehouse parish, a regular term of criminal court was held without jurors for the first time. Twelve cases were disposed of with defendants largely pleading guilty. Willie Ross receiving one to two years in the penitentiary for manslaughter after a murder charge. White defendants Charles Jones and Roy McCallister were sentenced to one to two years plus a $50 fine for attempted burglary. Abe Weaks, a Black man, pleaded guilty to shooting with intent to kill and drew 12 months on the road with hard labor. Robert Lambert faced assault and battery charges.
Edward Moran, janitor's son, is held for homicide in New York for strangling 76 year old widow Clara Hewes during a theft. He admitted shoving her when she confronted him about $3 taken from her dresser and tossed a brick through a transom to feign robbers. He later lost $2.50 in dice and spent 50 cents on candy. Hewes had $15,000 in savings across four banks.
Ouachita parish 4-H boys and girls gathered in Calhoun for a one day fair. FE R Strahan L G Rankin and Mrs Jewel L McQuiller led the event with others assisting. Detour delayed visitors as road paving near Calhoun forced longer drives for judges Irene Lord and G D Cain en route to the exposition.
In Denham Springs an election of 190 voters chose whether old muley should be allowed full sway or confined to protect shrubbery and plants. Old muley won narrowly with 108 in favor and nays. Denham Springs returns to normalcy after a strenuous campaign.
About 75 mill superintendents from the southern division gathered in Monroe for the 2x alumn convention. The event included a tour of the Brown Paper mill in West Monroe and a $5,000,000 expansion, a welcome address by Alden T. Shotwell, and a talk on Wood Fibers by Dr. G. J. Ritter.
James O. West, a lifelong Democrat, sued three Richmond city primary officials for 5000 in federal court claiming denial of his right to vote in a Democratic primary. A jury awarded 85 nominal damages to West. The case was appealed to the Fourth Circuit and may reach the U S Supreme Court for a final ruling.
Albert B. Fall was found guilty of accepting a 4100,000 bribe from Edward L. Doheny for the Elk Hills naval oil reserve lease. The jury urged mercy for the 68 year old former interior secretary, with the government planning to pursue a separate bribery charge against E. L. Doheny.

The case linked to Fall and Doheny concludes with a guilty verdict after a long Senate oil probe, watched by a juried, wheelchair bound defendant and jurors polled individually today.
Paris Oct 25 Edouard Daladier leader of the radical socialist party was asked by President Doumergue to form a new government to succeed the Briand cabinet. Daladier said he would answer at 3 pm tomorrow and general opinion Favours acceptance to form the new administration.
