William H. Brown held in parish jail denies knowing Norman Edie and says he was not in Shreveport when Hanson was murdered. He claims he can prove his absence with witnesses and notes past illness while serving as a convict guard.
The recused uncle of the deceased cannot assist the prosecution while Mr. Garland remains involved. Mrs. McRee, confident in her innocence, told an AP representative she will be acquitted if twelve fair jurors can be found in St. Landry parish. She declined to discuss the shooting of young Garland in her home on September 21.
Yonkers on October 25 reports the wedding of Elizabeth P. Getty great granddaughter of the Yonkers founder to Carl Fischer the prominent New York music publisher. Fischer is 65 and the bride 28.
The tenth annual convention met in Alton Illinois with President Thomas Wilkinson of Burlington Iowa presiding. Attendees include officials from several states and representatives of Wisconsin Minnesota Iowa Illinois and Missouri commerce and civic groups.
The Anti-Horse Thief Association of Oklahoma opened its annual convention in Tulsa with a mounted parade. Several hundred members from across the state participated as the event began, and the convention will continue tomorrow.
A gasoline launch capsized on Ferrylake near Potter's Station. Ralph Reardon 25, Miss Florence Wilson 18, and Miss Eva Wilson 14 drowned. Ben Smith survived. Bodies recovered within half an hour by a rescue party led by H M Arthur and H M Wilson. Wilson sisters from Beaumont Tex. Reardon formerly of Houston. Funeral plans under way.
