William N Doak secretary of labor in the Hoover cabinet died at his home in Virginia from heart disease. He suffered a severe attack two weeks ago and was 51. Born Rural Retreat Wythe County Va he studied in Bristol and became first labor secretary born in the United States after serving as railroad union leader on the Norfolk and Western system.
In Many Louisiana officials held a secret coroner's jury to probe the death of Dr. E. L. Thompson, a Dallas pastor and former Shreveport minister, found shot in his automobile near Pleasant Hill. The jury heard witnesses and adjourned temporarily without verdict. further sessions were planned.
Blank forms for government loans of ten cents a pound on 1933 cotton will be available through the Cotton Cooperative Association and banks early this week. Eligible producers must join the 1934 acreage reduction campaign and bring cotton to the office for classing and storage. Loans bear four percent interest and mature July 31, 1934, with the Commodity Credit Corporation financing the program.
