In New York on November 22 preparations are underway for a Cotton Ball at the McAlpin Hotel to aid cotton growers. Women will wear cotton gowns stockings and gloves while society leaders back the event. A large bale will decorate the ballroom and an orchestra will perform with pickaninies showcasing Southern dances. Mrs. Martin H. Glynn wife of Governor Glynn is honorary president of the Women s Democratic League which runs the ball.
John Doyle, a 50 year old Chicago man, attempted to hang himself after decades of bad luck. A passing switch engine tied to the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific viaduct cut the rope just as he prepared to drop. Doyle survived the attempted suicide.
Witnesses Celia Coleman and Frank Farrell described a dramatic scene linking Mrs Florence Conklin Carman to the Freeport murder of Mrs Louise Bailey. Coleman testified to a revolver shot and Mrs Carman’s remark I have shot him, while Farrell saw a woman by the Carman office window and later recounted fear and a white flash as a movement occurred.
Constable Goldman Sorrells was killed and deputy Walter Sorrells wounded as they attempted to arrest Will Nealy near Lawson, twelve miles east of El Dorado. Nealy fired from inside a barn then fled, later surrendering. Sorrells is in critical condition. Neighborhood reaction and a Country Club meeting follow.

Figures for September 1915 show champagne imports dropping from 12 928 cases to six in one year. Rhine and Moselle wines fell to 25 cases from 5 000. Bordeaux and Burgundy declined about 2 000 cases, while Holland wines, cherry, port, British gin, brandy and cordials rose. Italian wines and Scotch whiskies gained. German beer declined as 26 956 packages arrived last September.
