Zev the American three year old defeated Papyrus the English champion by six lengths in a mile and a half race for a $100 000 purse before a record crowd of about 60 000 at Belmont Park. Time was 2 35 1 5. Zev led from the start and steadily increased his margin, with Papyrus showing no gear changes as crowds cheered and the weather remained clear though the track was slow from recent rain.
